Life so far...

In the UK, after completing your foundation year training as doctor... you will move on to specialist traning pathway... over the past few years ... there have been some drastic changes in the pathway...

Every year, around Dec to April, most of the second year foundation doc would be busy dealing with jobs application and attending interviews and waiting eagerly for their job offer... many ppl would pray hard for getting job offer within the first round because trust me... getting through all the application forms are tedious and attending interviews are not enjoyable activities to do... Core medical, core surgical, acute care commom stem, paeds, o&g, anaethestic.... all different route and different requirement...

I attempted for the paeds pathway this time... and going through interviews by giving contradicting advice on swine flu vaccine, the ever so disheartening MSF, critically appraise paper and present it in 45 minutes... structured interview that make u pissed in ur pants trying to hold your nerve to answer it in the sensible way... are interview the best way to judge whether a doctor is suitable for the job the best way?

some might argue how a person react in nervous situation is exactly how a doctor is when facing emergency situation and would be all protray out during interview thus supporting having medical interviews to seek for the best candidates... however, have you ever wonder how many good doctors outside are left jobless and in great disappointment when job offer was not given after putting millions effort and time in perfecting the portfolios...

Today... the results revealed... and i am not in their first choice batch... i have to say... i am never a good speaker... never a good person in expresssing myself... never a good presenter... but i think i am fairly a caring doctor who stands on patient sides... how i wish i am a doctor in an ideal world where a Multidisciplinary team actually work perfectly without any flaw... how i wish i am so competent in doing everything that they suppose to teach me in medical school... and how i wish i do not need to ask a nurse to do anything for the patient if i can have extra 30 minutes everyday for each patient... and how i wish i am capable of dispensing medication and doing IV drugs by myself without needing to go through u know who...

sometime ppl think doctors just like to order nurses around to do things for them and doctors are just stealing glamours and are just diagnosing machine who do not care for patients... A lot of ppl do not understand doctors nowadays are restricted by unnessary rules and law that limit doctors training and often the important price to pay is the necessary skills that was used to be required...

At the moment, i am quite better off than a lot other ppl and i shall not be complaining as i am now... maybe this is god's plan for me... Prayed to him and he answered and i am doubting about his decision and not abiding to his plan? I often said God never answer my prayer... but when he does... i doubted him... perhaps this is what human being are... ever so difficult to be pleased.. and greedy ... i am just the typical one... perhaps i should do it... perhaps this is his plan... perhaps this is my DESTINY :)

Have you ever wonder....

Have you ever wonder why doctors call their work 'practice'??

Are we all just practicing something new all the time? When are we going to do the real deal?

SNowy Day

Stop me... i'm a shopaholic

U know what... preparing for exam can be a stressful time... it can be boring because your life basically come to a funny routine...

Waking up in the morning, not wanting to leave the bed because you know the next thing to do is back to the book... (maybe the cold freezing bloody UK weather does play a factor here too)

Looking at the questions and books... felt studying is such a chores to do...

And when you realise that the success rate is... err you know... not sure yet...

Mixed feeling inside me whether praying for heavy snow throughout this weekend to postpone the exam or just get over with....

Spending hours in front of computer doing online questions are useful to an extent... but ... u know when online shopping is so easy and common (even a 70 year old grandfather can do that)... and january sale going on now... it's hard to resist the temptation to buy things....

OMG... without realising i have already bought 5 games, 1 lens, 3 CDs, Concert tickets... OMG... i have already spent like more than 400 pound... I MUST STOP now.!!! Some ppl stop me!!! Worst now... i am even planning for holidays and spa trips... theatre trips.... What AM I DOING???
