lost and found

Finally back in this country, far up north in the western world. Was here since the 1st October, had been an eventful one month plus. Things are finally considered as settled down. Broadband is finally up and running, research project is going on slowly, the success of actually move my ass to the gym at least once a week, my room heating system is finally warm enough to keep myself inside to do my work, making weekly church services and bible studies as part of my weekly life and not a chores to do ( thank GOD), what was lost have been found... Well, my dearest frens all, i finally officially declared myself as settled down in this foreign country, well at least almost :-P

Well well, many had happened for the past months. It all started once i reached southampton university highfield interchange. I was on n******l express back from heathrow airport that fine evening. I was hoping to just grab my luggage from the hold of the coach and head back to my new house located not too far away, but, i realised one of my luggage which is supposed to be sitting inside that little compartment is GONE, HILANG, 不見了!!!!!! Where can it be??? Who got my luggage?? Oh my goodness gracious GOD.... who took it... Couldn't believe my eyes, i decided to climb into the compartment and look around thoroughly, No, tak ada, 沒有!!!! oh NO NO NO... of all bags... the bag that contained all my important documents, and i MEAN SUPER IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS (except passport) is gone... forever gone :?!?!??!?!??!?! after getting phone no from bus driver to report loss of my luggage.... i was damm freaking sure i put it into the compartment which is designated for winchester as told by the driver, but it's not there anymore...

Calling N******l express to deal with this matter was not the most pleasant experience. They recorded it down and wat they are doing was just waiting for people to return the luggage to them. After calming myself down and recontruct my mind. It would be sensible for me to think that someone mistaken my luggage as theirs and would return to me as soon as they realise. Since the bus stopped over at winchester before reaching southampton the people who got my bag would probably be from that stop which was only 5 passengers. Therefore i suggested to N******l Express to investigate by contacting those 5 passengers since n******l express would be able to do so by just checking their record on who took the bus except for those who bought it over the counter. However, they rejected my suggestion and insisted that what i can do now is just wait. This incident just made me running up and down and left and right, calling unfinished calls to look around for ways to retrieve it back... i was so desperate until almost wanted to post an advert in the newspaper to help track down the luggage.

After two weeks, N******l express wrote me a letter telling the bad news of not being able to retrieve my luggage and given me a special phone number to call to talk to their lost property manager. this number is basically non existance because i called million times but no one just seem to be there to answer my call. they suggested me to claim from my insurance (which i dun have). Browsing through the n******l express term and condition on lost property, i am suppose to be compensated 500 pound maximun if my luggage is lost due to the driver negligence. I wrote to them immediately and guess what, they replied my mail after one week saying that this is not considered as their driver negligence. (so how would the driver ever be accused of negligence if this is still not considered as his negligence) so frustrated, so annoyed, so angry!!!!

Just as when i've about to totally given up... on the 10 November 2006, 9:19am, i was still in my bed, my phone was vibrating so hard until i was awaken by it, answered the phone with a still hunger for sleep brain, saying something... which i could not make up now... but i heard the few key words, n******l express... luggage... winchester police station.... found... my mind just woke up as if someone injected adrenaline into my brain, IT'S FOUND!!!! IT'S FOUND!!! Finally after 1 month and 10 days!!! Finally it's found. The police station received the luggage on Monday and looked into my bag and found my 'VERY IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS' and found my name and detail. I really dunno how they manage to contact N*****l express by those details and managed to get the bag to me at 11:09am the same day by using TNT courier. Welcome back my bag.... but some loss is loss and will never be retrieve even though i got my bag back... well... too hard to understand right?? at least i learnt something from this lesson:

  1. always pay for the 1 pound insurance by national express... it's just 1 pound!!!!
  2. always look outside whenever the bus stop to see whether anyone take you bag!!!!
  3. always make sure u keep all the important documents with you!!!! doesn't matter how big is ur bag... insist on bringing up to the bus !!!!!!
  4. and always trust GOD, he will help u :)

Something interesting about my research, part of my research involved asking equal amount of people of different gender to measure their fat distribution, BMI, lean mass... not involving giving blood or what, just use a small gadget which will only take them 30 seconds. Thought it would be a simple things to ask for volunteers, but shockingly, almost 90% of female and one male rejected me ... SO my questions to all my frens out there.... WOULD YOU OR WOULD YOU NOT LET ME CONDUCT THIS TEST ON YOU, JUST TAKE IT AS A FAVOUR I ASK FROM YOU? really just wonder what everyone else think... or is it just a southampton thing... hehe.. so please let me know k...

Life goes on as usual...

Home :-)

Yes... i'm back in Malaysia... specifically kuching.... oh lovely kuching... and folks... Kuching Airport is no more 'pudu' hehe... now it's like WOW!!!! I could not believe my eyes when i landed in the airport... it's very different now... so kathleen dun say kuching airport sucks anymore... and Jane faster come back kuching la... :-P

Already back since two weeks ago... life has been great back home except for the fact that i have to do elective... haih... if only i dun need to do all this.... so ya... i'm doing my 8 weeks long elective in Malaysia... very long elective posting.... been moving around 2 weeks recently... from Orthopaedics to Paediatrics... been seeing a lot and standing around a lot... sees lots of people... talked to many people... proved myself to be stupid many times in front of other people... :-( time to brush up la.... haih... anyway.. comparing UK teaching and Malaysian (UNIMAS) teaching... Below are the differences....
1. UNIMAS students need to deliver 10 babies on their own and perform all the baby check and all la starting from 3rd year... UK student ( i mean me la ) din even get a chance to watch a delivery ... wat say in charge??
2. UNIMAS students is allowed to perform any procedure to the patients including stitching and preparing nebuliser... central line and etc... UK student ( me again) dun even get a chance to assist... how are we suppose to learn ... :-(

well... can't think of anything else for now.... but UK also not bad la... below are some advantages....
1. UK student get smaller teaching group (bedside teaching) compared to UNIMAS where 10 students each bedside session....
2. UK student dun have to wear labcoat in the ward... UNIMAS is compulsory to wear white coat no matter how hot it is .... But it would be nice if we get to wear white coat when the weather gets too cold.. hmmmm

To be fair i shall name only two.. :-P

ARghhhh.... 6 more weeks to go... -_-"

Be discipline??

Freaking tired and anxious after the horrible OSCE exam that i had... woke up at 7am after a miserable night of insomnia... dragging myself out of my bed and prepared to get to the hospital for the exam... then being owned by a few stations asking me about Nephrotic Syndrome, interpreting abdominal x-rays, hypothyroidism etc... Received a brief e mail from the co-ordinator that the result will be released between 4:30-5:00pm the next day... (Can't they be more specific ... Grrrr....) Flashing back the previous terrible written paper asking me to talk about the breast screening programme in UK, multiple sclerosis -_-" and endometriosis (this is not even in the revision list) Oh GOD... was really thinking... "that's it... that's it... i'm not going to make it this time... "

The 29 hours before the released of the result was one of the few longest hours ever in my life... why 'few' because there were and there are going to be more moments like this in the near future... why do i have to always make myself into such circumstances where i can't even defaecate or urinate... or sleep properly... Though i was having BBQ with ppl that night... the feeling of anxious never left me... and it's getting worse as the time approaching slowly...

Keep repeating the same questions over and over again to my fellow batch mates "Everyone going to pass right... Sure can one right ?? " Pity them have to answer me the same answer again and again... but i only wanted to hear one answer "YES, We ALL CAN MAKE IT" whenever they are in doubt again... panic attack just struck me hard again... ARGHHhhhhh.... this is a great torture and i have brought myself in...

Getting down earlier to Boldrewood ( the campus that i'm not familiar with) did not help to ease myself down... instead it's making me feeling even worse... sitting down at the couch keep staring back at the notice board and discussing all the possibilities with navin is not calming at all... watching andrea and the other batch mates starting to crowding the compound is making my heart beating faster and faster... i could feel it pounding as if trying to release itself from pericardium... Staff came out keep postponding the release of the result is making me worrier and at some point frustrated with them... Arghhh.... Sitting down quietly, gripping my fist, holding my breath now and then... said a million prayers... not million but billions of prayers... Finally... three staffs walked out the office nodding their head indicating that it's the list we were all waiting for... me and navin were among the first to jumped out of our seat and rushed to the front... stopped by the staff to allow their colleague to actually paste the list up on the board... released us, when the list is finally up and sealed by the glass window... i moved forward... scanning the list up and down, looking for my ID no.

"no... where is it... where is it ????!?!??" Got it... found it !! I PASSED!!! YES I PASSED!!!! as if i just put down the million stones inside me. which had be compressing on my chest all the while.. i felt as if i was as light as feather... who says human need marijuana or similar to feel high... hehe... All fellow IMUnians all passed the exam as well... not great but we only wanted a pass anyway :) Wonderful feeling :) Malaysia here i come!!!

... and here i am back in malaysia... why must i always put myself into such situation.. will earlier and better preparation makes me more confident in such event again in the future ? Do i get the discipline to train myself to focus more on my studies after this event ?? Haih... Life goes on...

~_~"

Sometime i just dun understand my uni... making us travelling from one hospital to another... from one clinic to another... from one health centre to another... not to meet proper different patients but to meet with one particular lecturer to give some particular lectures in different places where they could actually do it in our very own general's seminar rooms... school of medicine have to arrange transport for 5-6 students, a 20 passengers coach to bring student from one end of southampton to another end of southampton (took only 15-20 minutes travelling time) to attend a 2 hours long lectures ( with 20 minutes break in between)... Tell me... which one is cheaper... asking the lecturer to drive to the general to give teaching or sending students over? Making us wake up early in the morning to wait in the cold for a 'always late' (sometime early though) bus... haih...actually i love to travel but not when i'm having an examination soon... Haih haih haih.... stresssssssss.....

As for today, me and my mate went to a small health clinic which is located in a very weird area... (a building built in the middle of industrial factories... imagine how hard is it to find) to meet a consultant ( i think he is a consultant) to talk about "When u should admit a patient to hospital?" for 40 min??!?!?!??! Then off i go all the way back to the hospital where i came from... haih.... Poor consultant have to talk to 2-3 students a week on the same topics over and over and over again... Poor students have to walk and look for a 'so not obvious' place. -_-"

Something medical ppl might be interested...

Medical People... read about this....

"LONDON: Malaysian specialist doctors will berewarded with an “instant” pay rise of about RM4,000 if they were to return home and serve the country.Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek said theywould immediately move up from the Grade U41salary scale of RM3,000 to Grade U48 of RM7,000.He said the Public Services Department (PSD) hadapproved the “big jump” in recognition of theirspecialised skills and training in Britain.“So my advice is return home while the going’s stillgood,” he said during a dialogue with a group ofMalaysian doctors and medical students in MalaysiaHall here on Saturday.Dr Chua urged them not to take too long as therecould be a surplus of doctors in Malaysia in 10 to 15years.“It’s either doctor laku or doctor yang tak laku,” hesaid, adding that the competition was intense in theKlang Valley, which had a ratio of about one doctor to400 people.Dr Chua also cautioned Malaysian medical studentsthat they would find it more difficult to work in Britainin the next three to five years. This is because the British government wouldincreasingly give preference to its citizens and EUnationals, while Malaysians would be lumped togetherwith other nationalities. He said he was not appealing to them on the groundsof nationalism or patriotism.“We’re appealing to them on the basis that there isdefinitely a better future in their own country.”Elaborating on the incentive for Malaysian specialists,he said those with post-basic qualifications such asMembership of the Royal College of Physicians,United Kingdom (MRCP) and MRCOG (Obstetrics andGynaecology), as well as two years' experience wouldstart off on the U48 salary scale.“That’s a big jump and they’re only two rungs awayfrom Special Scale already,” he said.Dr Chua said the ministry was also developing 32 sub-speciality services that faced shortages. He said they had taken over from the PSD the task ofselecting medical students for masters andpostgraduate programmes.“We plan to send 400 students for sub-specialitytraining, both in Malaysia and overseas every year.”He said the ministry hoped to overcome mismatchesas had happened in the past, where the students’aspirations were not matched by their scholarships.Dr Chua also touched on a wide range of incentivesas well as career advancement prospects including:ON-CALL allowance in- creased from RM25 toRM170;ALLOWING locum in government hospitals;SIMPLIFIED Bahasa Malaysia exam for serviceconfirmation;FULL-PAYING patients in Putrajaya andSelayang hospitals as a pilot project, where part of thefull rates go to doctors; and298 promotional posts approved for seniorpositions.Present were Malaysian High Commissioner DatukAbdul Aziz Mohamed, Malaysian Students Departmentdirector Dr Syed Raisudin Syed Abdullah, IslamicMedical Association of Malaysia (UK & Eire) vice-president Dr Mohammad Iqbal, UK Executive Councilfor Malaysian Students chairman Wan Mohd FirdausWan Mohd Fuaad and MCA Club UK president AlanLing. "

What are you guys' opinions on this? To me... this doesn't really concern medical student like me... cause at the first place... will i get the chance to be a specialist in UK first or not due to the new NHS rules? ;-( Are all the petitions thing going to work?? hmmmmm.... Who cares, graduate first is more important.... Intermediate coming.... *sob sob*

Working under pressure

Some explaination first before i start... 3rd year in Southampton will end with a Intermediate Exam (End of 3rd Year Exam). Every year... about now... the guidance for revision will be released and students are suppose to kick their own butt now and start studying.... Same thing happen this year... and the list of topics to study have already been released during the last few days.... and it is crazily lot.... OH MY GOD.... i'm stress and worried....

Well, i just started my easter break which only last for a week... Start on the 13th and end on the 19th of April... short holiday... sob sob... Should i kick my own ass and start working hard?? or should i just take this holiday as a time to rest then start working after holiday? hmmmm.... dunno...

Random thoughts of mine:

1. Am i a moody person?

2. When i keep quiet and not talking does it mean i'm angry and 'PMS'ing??

3. Do i look very scary when i'm quiet and serious??

4. Is it wrong for me to keep asking questions to make myself clear of everything (asking all the 'W' and 'How' questions)?? -- I'm just too slow...

5. Am i wrong to be scared of being left alone??

6. Am i oversensitive??

Anyone can answer me??

My life goes on ...

*Sarah (u are nowofficially my blog's quality control officer)... Is this post interesting enough??
